February 2008

As you settle in for winter, we wanted to update you on some upcoming activities.

Mark Your Calendars: Upcoming Events
On Tuesday, February 26th Lauren Reiss Frank will host Stem Cells 101 an educational event with Dr. John Boockvar, Director of the Cornell Neurosurgery Laboratory for Translational Stem Cell Research.  RSVP

While your calendar is out, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s Annual Gala is
coming up on Thursday, April 17th. This year’s Gala will benefit the Emergency Departments, and is a wonderful opportunity for NewLeaders to participate in the Hospitals largest and most important fundraising event. Email us for more information.

We are always looking for event committee members and sponsors to help ensure more successful events. Email us to add people to the invitation list, join the committee or to get more information on sponsorships.

Volunteer at NYP
Our dedicated Volunteer Committee has chosen a NewLeaders Volunteer Initiative to adopt Neural Connections at Weill Cornell Medical Center. Volunteers work directly with patients performing a variety of services, ranging from friendly chats and card games to mealtime assistance and mobilization support.

This year we are once again partnering with Friends For Kids and holding Volunteer Children’s Craft Days at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. The first one will be on Saturday, March 8th from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. with more
to follow.

Education Events
Our Education Events continue to be a roaring success! NewLeader Rory Murray hosted the first of our 2008 Education Series: “The Savvy Parents’ Guide to Healthcare” featuring Dr. Pamela Gallin. Upcoming events in the series include the February 26th “Stem Cell 101” hosted by Lauren Reiss Frank, as well as one on Nutrition and another about Lasik Eye Surgery. More details to come.
