August 2009

Hello NewLeaders,

We have reached the half-way mark in the year and already have passed it in our fundraising goal of $100,000 in 2009 for the Departments of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. To date, we’ve raised over $75,000 for the NewLeaders 2009 Priority Fund - Thank you!

The 2nd Annual Summer Cocktails event on July 14, 2009 provided many of you with the opportunity to meet new people and reconnect with other NewLeaders you had not seen in a while.  We raised over $5,000 during this event- an amount we can all be proud of. Check on out the photos from the night online!

Through in home Pediatric CPR courses we have enabled parents and friends in our community with the life saving skills necessary if the situation should arise. We will continue to offer these throughout the year- please email us if you are interested in hosting a class in your home for your family, nanny or babysitter(s) or a group of fellow parents and friends.

The Divisions of Pediatric Emergency Medicine are located in separate, pediatric-
focused emergency care centers, offering 24/7 medical treatment for ill and injured children. Each year, the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine’s staff sees over 60,000 visiting patients and over 5,500 inpatient admissions per year. The physicians are A.C.G.M.E. trained and certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and the nurses are trained in caring for children. The focus of the Divisions of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is to provide not only the best pediatric care but also excel in providing family-centered care too.

Our fundraising efforts will provide the best patient care to the Hospital’s youngest patients allowing them to live healthy, happy lives and become the NewLeaders of tomorrow.

Social Event

Fall Run in Central Park with the New York Road Runners

Our first race was a huge hit with 25 NewLeaders getting up early to enjoy the morning weather, coffee & bagels and a brisk jog in the park with fellow members. Check out the pre-race photos!

We’re gearing up to do it again this fall!  Join us on a Saturday or Sunday morning this fall to get fit with your fellow NewLeaders runners. Like the May 31st race, we will have members of the Hospital’s Departments of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Medicine on hand to lead stretching and warm-up, as well as answer any questions you might have on race day.

All participants registered thru the NewLeaders website will receive a NewLeaders dry-fit t-shirt, baseball cap or visor, water bottle & insulated tote bag!

Volunteer at NYP – Interested in volunteering? Let us know!

Our dedicated Volunteer Committee has adopted Neural Connections at NYP/ Weill Cornell as the NewLeaders Volunteer Initiative. Volunteers work directly with patients performing a variety of services, ranging from friendly chats and card games to mealtime assistance and mobilization support.  Volunteers commit to one volunteer spot just about every four-to-five weeks, either on a Wednesday evening or Sunday morning.  To date, NewLeaders have completed over 150 hours of volunteer service with Neural Connections!

We are once again partnering with Friends For Kids and holding Children’s Craft Days at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital.  These volunteer opportunities allow NewLeaders hands on experience with our patients while we build jewelry, picture frames, decorate treasure chests and other fun themed goodies.
